Now I know this has virtually nothing to do with law or politics (apart from the opportunity for free illegally obtained software and the possibility of the Anti-Piracy Police coming to get you) but with the complete absence of any posts for months I thought what the hell. Local Tories have defended a candidate who was forced to quit after saying that Enoch Powell was right in his 1968 “Rivers of Blood” speech warning against the social tension that could be caused by mass immigration. Nigel Hastilow resigned as the Tory candidate for Halesowen and Rowley Regis rather than withdraw his remark on immigration, made in a local newspaper article, his local party are standing by him. I rarely read paper versions of the newspapers these days, I prefer to read the online versions there are two main reasons for this, one being that it is free and second I like to read the comments that other readers post. It’s interesting to hear others views on the news topics of the day and I can always guarantee at least one of the comments will really get my back up, today that comment was posted by Phil on the Telegraph website and shows complete ignorance of the issue in question.
The story in the Telegraph concerns Gordon Brown’s plan to increase the amount of time terrorist suspects can be held without charge from 28 days to 56 days, Phil feels that “arguments about this being detention without trial are simply spurious”, now I find this one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever read, if Brown’s plan isn’t detention without trial and a huge attack on civil liberties and justice I’m not sure what it is. Well I’m fed up of waiting for Scotland to declare its independence, so today I’m launching my campaign for England (and Wales and Northern Ireland if they want to come) to declare itself independent from Scotland. The Union is now defunct and should be dissolved before relations are strained any further. Resentment of the Union appears to be growing on both sides of the border with the SNP complaining about the spending settlement for Scotland from Westminster and the English about subsidising Scottish Parliament spending. Why a person would choose to try and have sex with a bicycle is beyond me, but each to their own and all that and who actually cares? Well the Queen apparently, yes apparently it is in the interests of the Crown to prosecute and place Robert Stewart who had sex with his bicycle on the sex offenders’ register. Following an earlier article I wrote regarding a magistrate refusing to place children in the care of gay couples a Christian couple who have fostered children for nearly thirty years have now been banned from fostering because they refused to sign new sexual equality regulations. My opinion on this may be slightly controversial but I agree almost entirely with Somerset County Council’s decision, judging by the majority of comments left on the Daily Mail website regarding the case most people think that this is political correctness gone mad, whilst I hate political correctness I don’t feel this is the case and there are issues of child welfare at stake. David Miliband, the Foreign Secretary, arrived in Washington last night on a mission to prevent the White House’s discomfort with Gordon Brown triggering a transatlantic rift. I can’t help but think that it is the UK Government that should be feeling the discomfort; for me it goes beyond discomfort I cringe at the very thought of us getting any closer to the US with its current policies and leadership, its probably the only decent thing Gordon Brown will ever do as PM is to distance himself from the former lap dog relationship of Tony Blair and George Bush.
Why would any Government want to be associated with a man like this? (watch at the end, wow Labour know how to have a party!)
A group of alleged counterfeiters are currently on trial for attempting to defraud the Bank of England to the sum of £28 billion, claiming that they had notes to this value which they wished to redeem. Equivalent to three quarters of the sterling actually in use £28 billion is an incredible amount bound to raise suspicions, not only this but the gang were dumb enough to make several other major mistakes: Read the rest of this entry »
Today the papers covered a story entitled “Christian magistrate in gay adoption row appeals against ruling” (www.timesonline.co.uk), the very title given to the story worries me but essentially it revolves around a magistrate who is Christian, Andrew McClintock, he resigned from the family law panel in Sheffield after he was refused exemption from adoption hearings involving same-sex couples. Mr McClintock went on to make a claim for discrimination based on his religious beliefs at an employment tribunal, he lost his claim and is now appealing the decision. Read the rest of this entry »
I couldn’t help but find this weeks reporting on safe alcohol limits by many newspapers as rather ironic, it never ceases to amaze me how they switch from one apparent view point to another on a mere whim. Read the rest of this entry »
